David "DJ" Ritter

David "DJ" Ritter is a skilled and proficient Data Scientist at the Cannabis Center of Excellence, INC. With over three years of experience in this role, he specializes in using data analytics and statistical modeling to guide strategic decisions in the cannabis industry. His work at the Center focuses on supporting citizen science and facilitating online collaboration, underscoring his commitment to innovative approaches in the field.

David has co-authored several influential articles in the scientific community, contributing significantly to the cannabis community. These include:


  • ​Self-reported Medicinal Cannabis Use as an Alternative to Prescription and Over-the-counter Medication Use Among US Military Veterans, published in Clinical Therapeutics on June 1, 2023. This article examines the trends and implications of medicinal cannabis use among veterans, showcasing David's dedication to understanding cannabis's therapeutic benefits.


  • ​iCount for Veterans: A Research Platform to Connect Veterans with Cannabis Research Studies Led by the Cannabis Center of Excellence, UMass Dartmouth, and Patriots Helping Vets, featured in Cannabis Patient Care on November 30, 2022. This work highlights the efforts to engage veterans in cannabis-related research, reflecting David's focus on community-centric research methodologies.


  • The Future of Cannabis in New Jersey: A Report Prepared by the Students of Rider University's Reefer Madness Course, presented on the Social Science Research Network (SSRN) on March 12, 2021. This report provides insights into the prospective landscape of cannabis in New Jersey, illustrating David's ability to analyze and predict industry trends.


Prior to joining the Cannabis Center of Excellence, David was integral to the Cannabis Community Care and Research Network (C3RN), where for two years he played a key role in collecting, analyzing, and disseminating information about cannabis and its effects on health and medication/substance use. This experience has given him a deep understanding of the nuanced impacts of cannabis in various contexts.




David's diverse career also includes consulting for Jali Medical, where he provided insightful medical industry and device research. Additionally, his tenure as an Analyst at Marduk Asset Management in Florida allowed him to engage in multidisciplinary research and analysis, further broadening his analytical expertise.


Academically, David is an alumnus of Middlesex Community College, where he earned an Associate of Science in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement Administration. His educational background, combined with his professional journey, equips him with a unique perspective on law, policy, and data-driven decision-making in the cannabis sector.




David's credentials are further enhanced by his certifications, including his participation in the Social Equity Program from the Cannabis Control Commission. He is well-connected in the industry, maintaining relationships with professionals like Andrew Westerkamp and Marion McNabb, DrPH, MPH, and stays engaged with his alma mater and industry entities such as Jali Medical, Inc. His dedication to lifelong learning and staying at the forefront of industry advancements makes him a valuable asset to the Cannabis Center of Excellence.
