New York Cannabis: Why This Study Is Different

NY Cannabis - Why this study is different.

Let’s be honest. New York’s cannabis landscape is rapidly evolving. Laws are changing, new dispensaries are opening, and public perception is shifting. But how do we know if these changes are actually meeting the needs of real people—patients, veterans, everyday users like you?

That’s where the RISE NY Cannabis Study steps in. From now until October 31, 2025, this initiative is gathering the real voices of New Yorkers to better understand how, why, and where we use cannabis across the state. The study, run by the CCOE in partnership with RISE dispensaries, isn’t just for scientists and policymakers—it’s for you.

How Your Participation Makes a Tangible Difference

How your participation makes a tangible difference.

Many of us have stories about how cannabis has helped—managing pain, easing anxiety, improving sleep, or simply contributing to overall wellness. When those individual stories come together in a statewide study, they don’t just sit in a database. They’re transformed into evidence lawmakers can use, insights doctors can trust, and innovations dispensaries can create.

Here’s how your participation directly benefits the cannabis community in New York:

  • Spotlighting Real Experiences: By sharing your journey, you draw attention to what’s working (or not working) about cannabis access and education in New York.
  • Guiding Policy: Your feedback will help inform data-driven recommendations for local and state government, particularly around medical cannabis programs and potential federal legalization.
  • Advancing Research: Quality data means better clinical studies, a stronger understanding of cannabis’s effects, and new, patient-centered solutions.
  • Improving Products and Services: Dispensaries and producers use this information to create products that fit actual community needs—not just trends.

Take the survey! Help advance cannabis.

What is the RISE NY Cannabis Study About?

The RISE NY Cannabis Study is open to all New Yorkers aged 21 and older who use cannabis, whether for medical conditions, personal wellness, or recreational enjoyment. Veterans are especially encouraged to participate. The study covers topics like:

  • Where you get information about safe and effective cannabis use
  • Your thoughts on current cannabis laws, regulations, and barriers

Every answer helps paint a clearer picture of the New York cannabis community—a picture often missing from official reports.

Who Is Behind the Study?

This research is led by Dr. Marion McNabb, President of the Cannabis Center of Excellence, and powered by the trusted team at RISE NY dispensaries. Both organizations are committed to ethical research, privacy, and making sure community voices shape the future.
